How to Choose Wedding Bands?

Have you put much thought into the wedding band you will be wearing for the rest of your life? No pressure or anything.

What’s your budget? Rings come in varying sizes, colors and styles and can range from cheap to costly. Once you’re engaged, start looking at wedding bands to get an idea of price.

Examine your lifestyle before picking out rings. For instance, does your fiance work with his hands a lot? Does he have a job that requires a lot of manual labor? You probably don’t want to invest a lot of money into an intricate band that will get scratched, messed up, or perhaps even lost. A simple band would work best for this type of lifestyle, whether for male or female.

Also, something to think about is the design. If you have a habit of running your fingers through your hair, a braided band will catch your hair inside the folds. If you’re rough and risk bumping your hand a lot, avoid diamond studded bands.

What kind of engagement ring do you have? Often, simple bands work best with a simple solitaire, while a more intricately designed engagement ring might compliment a fancier style band. Most of the time, engagement rings can be bought in a matching set, but most of all make sure there is a band to match the engagement ring that was purchased. If not, finding something away from the jeweler that created the engagement ring could prove to be difficult as most engagement rings are specially designed.

Do you have any skin allergies? Some people can’t wear yellow gold or silver. That will also play a role in what your band looks like, as well as the price. Platinum, white gold, and rose gold tend to be pricier than the traditional yellow gold.

Are there any meaningful symbols that capture your relationship with your fiance? The Celtic wedding band has many interpretations and if you’re planning on having a Celtic or medieval wedding, knotted bands will always remind you of your special day.

Whether you choose white gold, yellow gold, platinum, rose gold or a combination of any of those, remember that your wedding band isn’t just a piece of jewelry, but rather a symbol of your relationship with your new spouse and a commitment made to each other. Just as the ring itself symbolizes no beginning or end, so should the new journey of your marriage.
