Unique and Individual Wedding Invitations

You’ve dreamed of your wedding day since you were a little girl wearing a sheet for a veil. Now, a diamond is on your finger and the dream is becoming a reality. About six to eight weeks before the wedding, you’ll need to send out invitations. The invitations will be the first thing your guests see, so you want them to be as special as your relationship with your fiancé.

Do you want your wedding to stand out from more traditional weddings? Finding unique and individual wedding invitations will set the tone for your big day. Sit down with your fiancé and come up with three words that describe your relationship. Are you goofy? Are you fun? Do you both enjoy certain hobbies? Where is the location of your wedding?

When you place these three words together, you should have a clear tone. For instance, if you love to laugh a lot and have fun, consider a whimsical font. Perhaps you’re getting married on the beach. Add a palm tree, starfish, seahorse or a shell to your invitations along with the whimsical font. If you both enjoy running, consider a play on wording about “running to the alter” in the text. The possibilities are endless!

Something else to consider is to combine all of these ideas and use scrolls instead of traditional flat card stock and ship them in postal tubes. Tie them together with a colourful ribbon and put them inside the tubes for shipment. Your invitees will certainly enjoy seeing what’s inside!

Also, consider pocket fold invitations that can be custom ordered and save you from having to keep up with envelopes. Just be sure to order a few extras in the event of writing error.

If you’ve gone a more uniquely traditional route, add colourful ribbons near the top with a meaningful charm as a keepsake for your guests. Perhaps the charm could have a monogram or a Chinese symbol. For added flair, use coloured envelopes or write addresses in colourful font.

Wedding invitations can be as unique and individual as you want, no more stuffy, traditional card stock arriving in your guests mail. It will be an event to remember for everyone involved!

Choosing your wedding invitation fonts

We have many choices of fonts available most of which can be viewed on any computer.

However, if you haven’t found what you’re looking for, we sell a CD which includes wording hymns and fonts to help you make your own wedding invitations. This CD has a lots of extra fonts and are just lovely for wedding invitations

There are plenty of fonts that can be downloaded for free as long they’re being used for personal use. We use 1001freefonts.com as they have a huge selection of traditional to contemporary fonts available.

Examples of modern wedding invitation fonts

For modern invitations, it’s better to choose a sans serif font. These fonts have letters that are open and clean, giving a contemporary feel.

Mix and match fonts

For something a little different, we mix and match our fonts.

The names of the bride and groom and the guest names are in a different font to the rest of the invitation. This really makes the names stand out and give a very fancy look.

Choosing your fonts

When you’re choosing a font, consider the following

  1.        Consider design elements – proportions, size, background colour, foreground colours and line spacing will work differently with each font. Also, once your font is in, how does it affect the rest of your design?
  2.        Think about the materials you’re using. Try to match the font to your style of invitation and the materials you’re using.
  3.        Consider your personality, taste and the theme of your wedding. Does it work with these elements? Does it help you create the ambience you’re looking for?

So, there is no need to choose the first thing that comes to hand– your wedding invitation fonts need a bit more thought. Not only is the style of font critical but it sets the tone for your special day and will also make wedding invitation look complete.
